Julianna/D & E Certification

Occasionally, an eBay listing states the item is a certified Julianna. Can anyone please tell me how to obtain Certification on a bracelet that I believe is by D & E? Thanks for any advise you can offer!!

Murkat, there is a group that you join. You will have access to some of the folders at first, and I think more as time goes on. If you have something exactly like in the folders, you are safe to list as D & E aka Juliana. I might be wrong, but I think you have to be a member for something like a year before you can post a piece to the group for identification.

If you post pics, some of the members here are in the group and can help you.

Thanks Schelly for pointing out the very long wait to join that group - and that there are members here who do belong to that group and can help.

Another member offered this additional info, noting that "confirmed" and "verified" are sometimes used interchangeably...

If you join the Discovering Juliana Jewelry group on Yahoo there are albums (called "The Archives") which contain jewelry pieces that have been verified as true D&E by Frank DeLizza himself.

That a piece of D&E has been verified means it's the real deal - it was designed and manufactured by DeLizza & Elster. Some verified pieces would shock you - they look like anthing BUT D&E.

For many years they made and sold their jewelry with no identifying Trade Name. For a while they sold items under the trade names of Juliana as well as Gloria, Tara and Elegant - all of which had hang tags.

They also manufactured for a gazillion other marketers - Weiss, Celebrity, Hobe, Carnegie - the list goes on and on and on. The designs were D&E...the manufacturing was done by D&E...but the signature was that of another company.

One of the hottest "new" areas of D&E collectibles are belts. When times were tough and Glitter & Glam was NOT the rage it was belts (and some other things) that kept the cash rolling in.

The DJJ private group you do have to join. They are on yahoo groups. You can post items to the group immediately for verification. It is a certain process all the jewels go through so it does take several weeks.

Even if you find one that is the same, there may be the teeniest little thing that could indicate it is not D&E and those minute little things are noticed by the more knowledgeable people who study D&E.

I do not have the eye for the minute details. I'm lost most of the time, lol.

I have learned that those who seriously collect D&E/Juliana know it when they see it. I've seen listing after listing that did not ever mention Juliana/D&E go soaring if it was a desirable piece.

Seely, I remember a discussion on the jb many months ago that newbies could not post items for verification. Has that changed, or was that misinformation?

I believe taht is misinformation. I was never given a time frame and I've seen new peeps post quickly. It just takes time to feel comfortable about understanding the process to go through.
Although at first I was intimidated I realized that it's okay to goof and we do all laugh about it.

Thank you everyone! You have been most helpful. I will post a few pics of the bracelet in a few days so that you can offer your opinion. I'm so glad to have discovered this group as I am new & eager to learn.

I just wanted to clarify what was quoted above about the Trade names D&E used. Juliana was actually the only line that D&E produced. The others, Gloria, Tara and Elegant, were not D&E lines exclusively, but D&E did design and make some of their jewelry, as did other jewelry manufacturers. As far as newbies being able post items for verification, I think there was confusion about this because of some "bounderies" laid down a while back for security reasons. I think new members can take part in the verification process (having a piece verified or confirmed by the group), but there are other areas that newbies can't take part in until they've been a member, or rather a contributing member, for a little while. For instance, there are several levels of passwords, and only established members have full access to all of the albums and information, just for safely and security reasons. The albums have been tampered with and comprimised more than once since I've been a member. In other words, someone whom we'd put our trust in (too soon) got in and really shook things up! For a while, there was even a hold on new members joining, and as I mentioned, there are steps or levels now. If a new member takes part in discussions and helps in the voting, and shows a true interest in interacting with the group, etc., then they'll have full access sooner than someone that never posts or votes. --
