It looks Chinese, probably a maker's mark, as it is cast into the metal. Are there any hallmarks on the piece?

It'd be hard to tell Chinese from Japanese writing on a small signature, as they use many of the same characters and always for signing names.  I can tell you the bottom character says 'Mountain', and I think the first one is "silver" or "treasure" though I'm less sure about that( could look it up).  Still may not be much help without knowing the names/history of Asian makers.
