Come in the house, Mary! Sit down, put your feet up, and (as they say in the South) "set a spell"! We're glad to have you, with your 20 years of collecting knowledge. I'm kind of in the same boat, with a lot more interest in the old stuff than the new, but it takes a village of collectors to make a complete group. Between the 65 of us, we cover most of the bases. So chime in anytime you wish, and we all benefit!

Hi everyone! My name is Jeff and I have a 15 year history in the retail collectibles business. I've liked Precious Moments since the first time I visited the Enesco buying facility in Itasca about 20 years ago. But these days, I'm a software engineer and entrepreneur. I recently launched a new web site dedicated to archiving collectible called GoCollect.com. I've joined this community in hopes of learning more about Precious Moments in order to best improve the Precious Moments section of that site.

Hello all! My name is Jill and I am new to the club. I was first introduced to Precious Moments in high school when I worked at a Hallmark store. I have always thought they were beautiful and had such a neat story. Recently I have started purchasing PM's for re-sale on ebay. I have joined this group to learn more about all of the figurines, their story, and the artist!

Hello Jill! Welcome to our Group! When you look at all of the libraries and posts, this place can be a bit overwhelming, but just take your time, and if you can't find what you need, there is always someone here that knows. We will add your name to our Membership Directory so we can be more personal in the future.

Hi Jill! It's great to have you aboard. As Ken said, between the libraries, pictures, and posts, there isn't much that has not been discussed. Please ask any old question that you like !! And remember, we are all still learning facts and details no matter how long we have collected. The only bad question is the one that you need an answer to but don't ask !! We are here to share our knowledge with all. We have newbies and old-timers, so jump right in !! :)

I joined the group in December 2010 but "joined" summed it up. Got a notice today that I was not going to be active since I had not had any activity.  Decided to look around again--just came back from the Chapel Reunion.  I was there when it first opened and have wanted to go back.  My big "event" was going to Germany with the group 10 years ago.  I've been active in the local club for 25 years.  Interesting reading all the posts tonight.

Hi and Welcome back!  You have peaked my interest since I was on the Germany trip with you in 2002.  I remember a Linda but she has been back to the Chapel several times in the last ten years.  We surely must have met up at some castle or the other. :^O  I worked with Kristi and Connie to get everything in order for when you all arrived in Frankfurt.  The two of us flew over there a week earlier to sort out the issues !!

Without divulging any information you don't wish to disclose, maybe you can give me a clue as to which Linda I traveled with so I can put a name and face to the story ??  :-x

Alan and I had lunch with Sam and JoJo on Tuesday before the event.  We shared a lot of laughs and war stories about the good old days when we worked with him and sat up all night drinking tea as we watched him paint with canvasses spread all over the floor of his personal gallery.  So much fun and so long ago ... sigh :(    Hope we can figure this out and glad you are back and posting.  I'm sure you have a huge amount of knowledge for us.

Annie  :)

Annie-

I am the Linda from the Colorado group.  I just went to the Chapel with Shirley Fox.  There were about 10 of us who went to Germany from Colorado and my sister in law from Utah was my room mate.  I think we were on the other BUS--Hans I believe was our driver.  I don't know if this will help you or not.  Did you attend the event at Carthage this year?  I don't remember too many people, altho I did spend time with Jeannie Jo, Rosemary, Sandy Barnum, Sarah Barlow, and Wanda. Our Denver club just celebrated our 25th anniversary as a club.  We had club plates made for the occasion and we raffled off two as a fund raiser for the Chapel Foundation.  Success--$330 as a donation.

So glad you decided to touch base with us again, Linda!  It makes me feel good to know someone reads those notices!  It sounds like you could join Annie as resident historians of knowledge the rest of us have forgotten or maybe never knew of.  Glad to have some new life around here!

Re: NEW MEMBERS!! TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!!

Linda ... now I have it placed!  I talked a few brief minutes to you outside Rosemarie's room at the hotel.  You and Shirley were in the hallway when Ro, myself, and Alan (hubby) came out the door of Ro's room.  Jeannie Jo had not flown in yet.   Did you go with Shirley to see "Noah the Musical" at the Sight and Sound Theater in Branson on Tuesday afternoon ??

I think Hans was our driver, too.  The cheerfully chunky one who had the radio turned up very loudly so all could hear the World Cup soccer matches!!  :^O  Several Kaiserslautern soccer players were on the German National Team and he wanted to hear every minute of the games!  It was a riot up front because we couldn't hear ourselves think.

Is or was your club sponsored at one time by one of the Colorado Stationers stores ??  I think the couple that lost their airline tickets and passports in Paris were also from Colorado.  What a great trip that was ... another warm memory from days of yore !!

Shirley has been everywhere and done everything so I know you must have a wonderful knowledge of so many special things about the PM life.  I hope you will be able to share with us your insights whenever the chance comes up.   lt's so nice to catch up with you again after ten years !!  :-D  :-D

Annie:)

Re: NEW MEMBERS!! TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!!
Jun 25, 2011 07:55 PM

That would have been me if I was with S. Fox.  Sorry I can't seem to remember the meeting in the hall but things were a bit confusing--I was the one without a bed or room for a bit--thanks to a "Gayle" person cancelling it.  Non the less-I got one from another PM Gal-Praise God--

Yes one of our group lost the passport now that you mention it.  I don't remember the soccer games--I think we were towards the middle or back of the bus. When we left for Germany, our plane was late in going out of Denver and they assured us that our flight would be held in Detroit because there were 10 of us on the plane--well they lied-so 7 of us got sent to England and 3 got sent to Paris; England group landed at one airport and were bused to Heathro (?) and all of us were on standby--our all our sluggage went AWOL and caught up with us in Munich and we missed the 1st day of the event--I got lucky coming home and my luggage stayed in Frankfurt and I didn't get it till about a week later---Oh the memories.  My favorite was the night trip to the Effiel Tower--and going all the way to the top----awesome.

Yes our sponsor was Colorado Stationers-but they are out of business now.

Yes Shirley and I did see Noah's Ark at Sight and Sound--it was awesome.  I did see Rosemarie there but she was with a couple that I didn't know. We also ran into Chuck and Paula Mae at the motel where we were staying in Branson.

I don't know about being a wealth of info but I know I have a ton of publications in my basement that my hubby keeps wondering what I am going to do with it.  In the past twenty five years I've had some really great times with the collectors and friends I have made.  I am not sure how long the club I am in is going to be around--it is fading fast. I'll try and check into this sight now that I have figured out how to work it a bit better :)  Linda

Re: NEW MEMBERS!! TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!!
Jun 25, 2011 09:14 PM

This is getting good !!  The couple you saw Ro with at the Noah show was me and my husband Alan.  Ro needed to get away for a day so we drove down and back Tuesday.  You sat below us on floor level and we were in the front of the mezzanine section just above you ... and, yes, it was awesome.

We are the same two that talked to you in the hallway outside Ro's door.  Ro was introducing everyone in that crowded, loud hall.  I know S. Fox heard our names but not sure you got ours.   And, the most awesome, jaw-dropping experience for me was that same night time trip to the Eiffel Tower.  To come out of the trees into that park-like area and realize that there it was stopped me in my tracks - that was the first time that I really grasped that I was in Europe.  It's silly but I just stood there, stared and cried ... crazy, huh?  A gal from a small town who had only crossed the Mississippi River once (to go to Chicago) suddenly was seven time zones away.  Wow!

I had forgotten about all the lost luggage !!  We were more concerned about all the lost people that we couldn't account for !   :^O   I think Ro got "shipped" via Amsterdam.   The local club here is slowly crumbling, too ... I think it's an epidemic and it's spreading which is sad.   Do check in with this site and maybe we can sort of get it going again a little more robustly !!!     Talk to you again soon, I hope !!

Re: NEW MEMBERS!! TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!!

Apologies for not placing you sooner--At that point at Sight and Sound-we had just re-arranged our schedule to stay in Branson for a second night and had just become aware of me not having a room in Carthage as promised--etc.  In the hall way-well-too many people and I just didn't put two and two together. Also wasn't there another gal on the Germany Trip named Annie as well?  Anyway-thanks for pointing me straight-I certainly do now remember being introduced to you at Sight and Sound--after we saw Ro.    It will be interesting to see what happens at our August Club meeting-I feel that might be the make it or break it meeting so to speak. Will keep you posted.  I'll check back to this sight as I have time.  I've taken some time off from work here to clear my poor brain from all those numbers (Finance stuff) but will be returning on Wednesday.  As fun as the Chapel trip was-I was exhausted from it.   It has been fun chatting with you about the trips--would love to go back to Europe again-Austria and Switzerland and maybe Scotland--I think the Germany trip was once in a lifetime and I am sooooo glad I got to go.  :)  Take care.   Linda

Re: NEW MEMBERS!! TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!!
Jun 29, 2011 09:09 PM

Our New Member Announcement, which formally was on our home page, has apparently disappeared into an eBay black hole, along with a lot of other things which we held dear, but eBay did not.  So in order to bring it to your attention that we have a new member, this topic seems to be the best alternative.

So let's all give it up for anjanettesu! - our newest member, post-meltdown!  It's reassuring to know that in spite of eBay's best efforts, we still manage to attract new members.  anjanettesu is an eBay newbie, without much on the myWorld page, so we cordially invite him/her/them to fill in the blanks and introduce themselves in the space provided below!  Glad to have you aboard!

Re: NEW MEMBERS!! TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!!
Jul 2, 2011 06:43 AM

I lied.  anjanettesu wasn't our first new member in the "bold new world".  ksnknits was, on June 28th!  In all of the confusion, it was overlooked.  I'm so sorry, ksnknits!  When you get your nest feathered just right, and everything is familiar, and there are no surprises, this does not happen.  But when the deck is thoroughly shuffled, there are no assumptions anymore.

So we offer a belated greeting to ksnknits, or whatever your name is.  On that subject, we invite ksnknits, anjanettesu, and anyone else we don't know the name of, to register your first name in our Membership Directory.  It evokes a more personal feeling when you can call a person by name. Personally, I always feel a certain distance or reserve when communicating with an nameless eBayer.  But "we are family" here, so come out of your corner!

I'm Andy and I sold PM's when I was in college, about 16 years ago. I bought a few for my mom and sisters during that time. I always admired the figurines, but never got into collecting them as much as other things like baseball cards and comic books. I love the artwork, tho!

Hi, Andy !!   Welcome to our group.  We are all collectors at one level or another.  Some are newbies and some are long-time or original collectors.  Please ask any questions you want to and someone will be here to help or at least steer you in the right direction.  I, too, love the artwork and have taken lately to collecting the very earliest of Sam Butcher's work ... his artwork, his early figurines and specialty products as well as much of the work done by Sam under the banner of the Jonathan & David Co., the start of PM.   Hope you come back and check in often !!  :)

Glad to have you, Andy!  I'm so glad you took the initiative to tell us about yourself.  (Saves me the trouble of creating a "welcome" topic!  And thanks for using your real name; we'll add it to our Membership Directory.  I see you have a figurine question elsewhere; we'll see if we can help you on that.

We have a double newbie, nanasmoments. They not only just joined us, they just joined eBay.  And they are off to a flying start, with 40+ PMs for sale already!  Wish I had that kind of organization - been here for years, and never sold a thing!

WELCOME to all the new members! It's great to have more members with PM backgrounds as my gray matter has a hard time sorting out all the old facts sometimes! More knowledge is always a good thing!

Greetings to you all. My name ia Diana Flores. I use to be a member many years ago, well here I am again.

I started collecting Precious Moments back in 1994. My collection has grown quite a bit. I collect just about anything pm makes. I have been to the PM Chapel twice, wish I could go more often. Was able to attend the 20th. Anniversary Celebration.

My favorite PM would be Make A Joyful Noise.

I love Precious Moments!!

Welcome home, Diana!  So good to have a new member with such spirit and enthusiasm.  I see you've already posted elsewhere, so I won't send out the usual canned-paragraph greeting I normally send to new members.  We'll add your name to the membership list so everyone can remember your first name.  Glad to have you back!

Hello,

My name is Kathryn and I am from MI.  I joined in April.  Unfortunately, just as I was getting ready to introduce myself my husband fell and broke his ankle.  So, I have been a little busy on that front.

At any rate, several years ago my mother gave me her PM collection.  She had been collecting since 1979.  It was always so nice to see her face light up on birthdays, holidays, and just because, when I would give her figurines to add to her collection.  We would often spend hours just sitting and looking at the adorable figurines.

Since, I have been adding to "our" collection.  I have also been adding minatures and giftware.  Just LOVE those mini's!

Best,

Kathryn
