Do You Know This Member?

It seems we have had a net loss of 19 members over the last 2 months. This would not be so bad if our membership additions had keep coming, but it remains telling that even with the additions, this has been offset by more than 19 losses. The losses are all members that no longer participate, not self-removals. Per our policy, you are subject to removal if not logging on in the past 6 months. Each of the removed members was given a grace period invitation to resume active membership, and was not removed unless still inactive after one week. There have been a few that resumed being active, but we need to do a better job of keeping the membership active. From now on, I will publicize the user ids of members that are "on the bubble". Besides sending them my invitation, it may be more effective if the membership also sends them their personal invitations. Currently, ila27pm is an inactive member, subject to removal. If you know this member, please let them know they are always welcome. If they have problems with the group, we will do our best to resolve them. Above all, let them know we care. Update: ila27pm is back! -- ken -- Edited by y8sisgr8 at 07/12/2009 9:18 AM PDT ken

I did not originally envision this thread being used for another purpose, but it has come to our realization that it may also be used to inform the group of member self-removals. The member in question is tofumonster, removing themselves because of an "unpleasant experience". I have written the member a request for more details, so that we may resolve the cause of their problem. If any of you have any ideas on this subject, I have unlocked this topic so you may reply below. But the best thing we could do is to let tofumonster know that the door is always open and to give us a second chance. -- ken ken

Did you by any chance ask the new members who have joined since 6/17/09 if they heard about this site while at the Chapel event? Did any of you new members that have joined since 6/17/09 hear about this site at the Chapel event? -- Fred Fred

The only one I know of was pm08.515, who sent me the following note: Dear y8sisgr8, Hi. My name is Jeanette. I have been collecting PM for about 6 years. I have attended the annual conventions now for the last 3 years with 2 of my daughters. It was great to see Mr. Butcher doing so well. We got photos of him painting in the chapel. Then JoJo took one of us with him behind the chapel. I found your flyer at the last event and decided to check it out. I spent almost on hour on your sight last night reading. We are looking forward to going to the St. Jude's event this fall! - pm08.515 Since we seem to have had a flurry of new members since then, I suspect most of the rest were the result of the event flyers. Thanks for distributing them, Fred! I always ask the new members how they found us, but seldom get a response . . . -- ken ken

We have received a response from tofumonster, who says the "unpleasant experience" was not with us, but with the PMI organization. At least we are not directly responsible, but it is a sad state of affairs when PMI seems to poison some of our membership. So we plod on . . . -- ken ken

Currently, cathdickman is an inactive member, subject to removal. They have been a long-time member, so it is puzzling. If you know this member, please let them know they are always welcome. If they have problems with the group, we will do our best to resolve them. I have contacted them, so now the rest is up to you. Above all, let them know we care. -- ken ken

I was in the process of sending jq11288 a reminder notice for inactivity, and see that they are no longer a registered user. I sent them my canned statement about terminating unregistered users. They did post, in a sense, by commenting on items in the photo library. I have never had this clarified, but would they even get my notice or your entreaties to remain with the group if they were unregistered? Anyone have any ideas on that? If we can't even reach them, it would make it academic to close the relationship without agonizing about whether we were doing the right thing. On the chance that our efforts might make an impact, and you know this member, please let them know they are always welcome. If they have problems with the group, we will do our best to resolve them. I have contacted them, so now the rest is up to you. Above all, let them know we care. -- ken ken

I see that himoney168 is no longer a registered user. I sent them my canned statement about terminating unregistered users. They did post, in a sense, by commenting on items in the photo library. It is problematic if we can reach a member that is no longer registered, but on the chance that our efforts might make an impact, and you know this member, please let them know they are always welcome. From my understanding if a person is an unregistered user then they are unable to receive any ebay communication or communicate with ebay until whaatever issues with ebay have been resolved.

Thanks for that info. I guess we won't bother to contact them, if they can't receive any messages. The only way would be if someone knew the person's email address, but that would be pretty remote. -- ken ken

We have a bunch of inactive members this month coming up on their 6-month "anniversary" of their last attendance. So rather than list each one individually, I am listing them in batches. All of these never returned after their initial log-on, and never posted. The first is busyracingmom. The next one I will contact tomorrow, breezi988. The final one is yurun000, due on Thursday. It always aggravates me to see members who don't return. Since we are an open group, there is no need to join just to see what is going on, so you would think they wouldn't have joined unless there was some interest in what they saw. Of course, maybe they were not aware of the open group distinction and just joined to investigate, that being the usual eBay mode of operation since most groups are NOT open. In any event, if you know these members, please let them know they are always welcome. If they have problems with the group, we will do our best to resolve them. I have contacted them, or will on their due date, so now the rest is up to you. Above all, let them know we care. Update: breezi988 did not have the time, asked to be dropped. -- ken -- Edited by y8sisgr8 at 08/12/2009 6:21 AM PDT ken

We have 3 inactives coming up this week, emmanuel123*123 today and littleontheside on Wednesday; both have never posted and last logged on when joining or soon thereafter. However, shortnsweet47 (on Tuesday) has been a long time member for almost 3 years and has posted 4 times, so it is puzzling that they have gone silent. If you know these members, please let them know they are always welcome. If they have problems with the group, we will do our best to resolve them. Shermaine Leong ( emmanuel123*123)asked that we drop her. Denise, you may remember it was her that was trying to find the drummer girl figurine that you had. Did that eventually turn out OK? Since she never posted, I never realized this member was the one we had dealt with on that piece, until she just told me. I guess that's another reason WE SHOULD ALL HAVE OUR FIRST NAMES ON FILE IN THE MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY! -- ken ken

We have quite a batch coming up this week. On Sunday, lori221960: never logged on after joining, no posts. On Monday, kayamo82: member since 5/08, but no posts. On Tuesday, corb840: a very active member for one month, and posted 6 times, then went silent. On Thursday, pmcrazy3 (no relation to pmcrazy2!): member for one month before inactive, no posts. Two on Friday: lucky0701 - long time member almost 4 years now, 5 posts, including moving tribute to former leader Sheryl Williams when she died; haileyssprague1975 - never returned after joining, no posts. If you know these members, please let them know they are always welcome. If they have problems with the group, we will do our best to resolve them. I have contacted them, or will on their due date, so now the rest is up to you. Above all, let them know we care. Update: kayamo82 is back, and has posted! Update #2: ditto for haileysprague1975; this is great! Update #3: double-ditto for lucky0701; welcome back! Update #4: And a triple-ditto for pmcrazy3! You guys have made our day! I hate to lose good members! -- ken -- Edited by y8sthegr8 at 09/02/2009 7:35 PM PDT ken

Last March we had 15 members who made their final logon. 10 of them were new members in March, and 4 all made their last appearance on March 1. Wish I knew the magic formula to keeping people more involved, but at least it seems we have decreased the bloodletting when we kept 4 out of 6 last week. I hope (?) that is because more of you are notifying those on the bubble, which has more of an impression than if it's "just me o' Lord"! Anyway fellow agents, here is latest mission, should you decide to accept it: we have 4 missing members, last heard from 3/1/09; chassece, vincesgal, and alyciain have been members several months; chgordon96 never returned after joining. None of them ever posted, but chassece left Pam a note to add her birthday to the register on her last day. Her name is Charlene. We did not receive notification of the other's names, though I remember that alyciain gave the name of Alycia in an email, though she didn't request it be listed. And that's all I know about these folks, unless someone else knows more. If you know these members, please let them know they are always welcome. If they have problems with the group, we will do our best to resolve them. I have contacted them, or will on their due date, so now the rest is up to you. Above all, let them know we care. A special update to the above post: Mary ( vincesgal) says life is just too busy to be a regular, but does like to check with us to see what's going on now and then. She gave her name and birthday (Feb 5), which I have entered on our registers. Now the sticky part: she says she logged on yesterday, yet our glorious system has not recorded that fact. I'm glad she contacted us telling us that, because ordinarily she would have been deleted. I have a sneaky suspicion that since we are an open group, you can "visit" us without logging on, even if you are a member. It has happened to me occasionally when for some reason I came in through the Community full-page screen, rather than click on the drop-down. In visiting mode, none of the new-activity-since-you-signed-on-last icons would show, and you couldn't enter a discussion. The visit would not be sensed as a logon. It's kind of chilling to think who we may have lost because of this, but overall I still think we should be as open as possible to attract new members. -- ken -- Edited by y8sthegr8 at 09/04/2009 7:02 AM PDT ken
